Smarter Than Search: Agentic Browsers
Case Study
When it comes to researching fast-moving tech markets, even the best AI assistants can fall short. This case study explores how agentic browsers-AI tools that autonomously browse, analyse, and summarise the live web-can outperform traditional assistants in tasks requiring transparency, nuance, and up-to-date decision-making.
Our focus: identifying the best chatbot platforms for small business customer support, using real-time data and structured insights.

TABLE OF CONTENTS
TL;DR - At a Glance
- Challenge: Could an agentic browser deliver expert-level research on the best chatbot platforms for SMEs-faster and more transparently than human analysts or standard AI tools?
- Solution: We tested an autonomous browser on a real-world task: comparing chatbot platforms based on live data, legal compliance, and specific small business needs.
- Outcome: The agentic system uncovered high-fit, lesser-known tools, mapped features to practical use cases, cited 15-20 sources per answer, and produced presentation-ready summaries-without any human prompting.
Project Snapshot
This case study tested whether an agentic browser-an AI tool capable of autonomous web navigation and synthesis-could match or exceed human-level research quality in a real-world task. The focus: identifying the best chatbot platforms for small business customer service.
Unlike traditional AI assistants that rely on outdated data or lack source transparency, this agentic browser explored the live web in real time-evaluating pricing, policies, integrations, and compliance features across dozens of sources. The result: structured, trusted insights ready for immediate business use.
The Challenge & Context
With the chatbot market evolving rapidly, small businesses often struggle to find platforms that suit their specific needs-multilingual support, GDPR compliance, e-commerce integration, and reliable documentation. Standard web searches return generic results. Static AI assistants can't justify claims with fresh, verifiable sources.
This project set out to challenge that norm: could an AI agent, given a single prompt, independently navigate the web, evaluate real-time data, and produce a business-grade recommendation?
Our Approach
We deployed an agentic browser with different prompts like:
“Which chatbot is best for customer support in small businesses? Justify your answer with features and use cases.”The browser autonomously:
- Searched and selected relevant pages
- Reviewed vendor sites and documentation
- Mapped features to small business needs
- Compiled results into structured summaries with links, pros/cons, and action steps
It applied reasoning to weigh options, included verifiable references, and matched the depth a human analyst might deliver-at speed.
Technologies Used
- Live web access and content extraction
- Autonomous multi-step planning engine
- Real-time source citation and synthesis
- Structured output generation (tables, summaries, comparisons)
Human-Centred Design
- Prioritised transparency and traceability
- Matched tools to user needs (e.g. multilingual or privacy-first platforms)
- Framed outputs for real-world decision-making, not just summary
Outcomes & Visuals
The agentic browser didn't just identify chatbot tools-it delivered precision insights that were structured for immediate action. Key benefits were both functional and educational:
✅ Key Wins
- Discovered Niche, High-Fit Tools: Identified under-the-radar platforms like Chatbase (GDPR-ready), Answerly (privacy-first), and Chatlab (automation-rich), often absent from conventional summaries.
- Matched Features to Business Needs: Mapped features directly to use cases (e.g., “live chat + Shopify = improved conversion”), with links to pricing tiers and documentation.
- Transparent, Source-Backed Recommendations: Grounded findings in 15-20 sources-vendor pages, community reviews, and forums-ensuring traceability and confidence.
- Strong in Legal and Privacy Domains: Accurately highlighted encryption, storage practices, and compliance factors with sourced documentation.
- Ready-to-Use Outputs: Delivered tables, pros/cons, hyperlinks, and summaries requiring no further formatting-ideal for procurement or team briefings.
Performance Scores (Out of 5)
| Dimension | Score (AVG) |

| Feature & use case depth | 4.7 |
| Source transparency | 5.0 |
| Usability for decision-making | 4.2 |
| Output structure | 4.3 |

Comparison: Agentic Browser vs. Other Tools
Most AI research tools-like classic browsers, standalone assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini), or hybrid plugins-still rely on user guidance. They retrieve and summarise, but rarely plan, navigate, and verify autonomously.
Agentic browsers stand apart by managing the entire research process independently: they search, click through links, read across sources, compare information, and deliver structured results-all in one seamless flow. Unlike deep research modes in tools like ChatGPT or Gemini, which retrieve from indexed or pre-ranked content and await your direction, agentic browsers proactively explore the live web in real time. They're also faster-identifying niche tools, mapping features to real business use cases, and citing 15-20 live sources without requiring follow-up prompts.
Discussion & Future Directions
[top] Lessons Learnt
- Live Web Access Drives Depth: Agentic browsing uncovered real-time insights and tools missed by static AI systems.
- Source Traceability Builds Confidence: Citing every claim made outputs credible and shareable across stakeholders.
- Clear Structure Adds Value: Structured summaries improved both usability and decision-readiness.
Areas for Improvement
- Inline citations needed
- Tone and framing for audiences
- More visual cues
Future Applications
- Market benchmarking
- Vendor audits
- Regulatory analysis
- Classroom demos
- Research-as-a-service
They represent a shift toward AI tools that collaborate-not just automate-research and decision-making.
